1. Spirillum; cork-screw shape bacterium only reaches high numbers in low oxygen conditions, indicating other serious pathogens are present and growing.
2. This wave-shaped bacterium - a stiff corkscrew shape as it moves through the medium in a wave motion - is spirilla. If you see these bad guys in your sample, you know that it is anaerobic and you have pathogens in your system. Almost invariably, these spirilla indicate that either E. coli or Salmonella, or Shigella are growing.
